Warn Concludes Season with Seventh Place Finish
MJ2 Racing Driver Jim Warn Closes Sophomore Season with Sixth Top Ten of the Year
AURORA, OR. (September 28, 2009) Jim Warn from Aurora, Oregon and driver of the GPI Performance.com Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Series-West posted his sixth top ten finish of the season with a seventh place performance at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA in the season finale for the NCWS. The finish also gave Warn a ninth place finish in the final point standings in his second year on the tour.
Warn qualified ninth for the 150-lap event at All American where a capacity crowd filled the fairground facility. Warn wasted no time in establishing himself in the race. Even though several caution periods slowed the action early in the event, Warn managed to negotiate his way up to the fifth position just after halfway in the 150-lap contest.
Over the middle portion of the race there was a lot of "action" where several cars got together and Warn was one of them giving him both front and rear cosmetic damage. The fifth caution came out on lap 116 and Warn felt something not right with the car and slowed to assess it. In doing so, NASCAR did not give him pack his position as he did not maintain pace car speed relegating him to restart the race on lap 122 in the 11th position.
Though his car was not as good as it had been earlier in the race, Warn used the final 25 laps to move back inside the top ten and crossed the finish line in the seventh position to score his sixth top ten finish of the season.
The race and finish proved how far Warn and the team have come in a real short period of time. "It was a fun short track race," Warn said. "The race turned out a lot better than I expected and I have a lot of fun behind the wheel. We really had a great shot at a top five finish but it was not meant to be. All in all a good race for the team and a great way to finish out the season."
Warn drives for MJ2 Racing and is sponsored by GPI Performance.Com. The car is powered by a Chevrolet NASCAR Spec Engine built by Brad "Freight Train" Peters and sits atop a Hopkins chassis built by KHI. Warn completed his second year of competition in the NCWS with one top five and ten top ten finishes in 26 career NCWS starts. Jim's crew is lead by Mike and Cindy Warn (owners) with additional support from crew members Aldie Taylor, Mike Jones, Dustin Gerlach, Steve Golladay, Gil McGarrity, Dan McGarrity, Julie Maden and Walt Trachsel.
The Toyota/Copart "150" at All American Speedway will be televised Thursday, October 8 at 12 noon PT on SPEED Channel. The next event for MJ2 Racing and driver Jim Warn will be the annual NASCAR Toyota All Star Showdown at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, CA January 29-30, 2010.
