HOLMES WINS NASCAR WEST RACE AT PHOENIX

AVONDALE, Ariz. (April 12, 2010) -- Eric Holmes crossed a goal off his list when he won the Jimmie Johnson 100 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Phoenix International Raceway. The race was part of the undercard for the Sprint Cup weekend at the venue.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the K&N Pro Series West and East, as well as for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. The field for the race at PIR included drivers from eight states and Canada, made possible partly because the drivers in all three series race on the same line of Goodyear Eagle bias-ply tires and have experience with the tires they used at PIR.

Holmes, a series champion who had never won at PIR, used tire strategy to help him win the Phoenix race. He originally planned to complete the race on one set of Eagles but midway through the 100-lap race around the mile oval, during a fuel stop, his pit crew mounted a new pair of tires on the car's right side. The new tires brought new speed to his car.

Holmes led 17 laps, including the final 12. The race ended under a caution flag after an attempt at finishing under a green, white, checker condition failed.

Jason Bowles finished second, followed by Greg Pursley, Jonathon Gomez and David Mayhew. Andrew Myers won the pole with a lap of 126.689 mph, besting a field of 33 cars.
