Warn (out) in Texas
KYLE, TX (March 14, 2009) Jim Warn, driver of the MJ2 Racing/Gran Prix Imports Chevrolet on the NASCAR Camping World Series-West had a night filled with frustration only to end up where he started. Tenth. The Allstate Texas Thunder "150" capped an evening of racing at Thunder Hill Raceway located outside Kyle, Texas; a race that was threatened by weather all weekend but the skies cleared only to give way to thunder and lightning on the racetrack.
Warn qualified tenth in his second trip to the 3/8-mile paved oval which would put him on the outside of row five to start the race. The outside line at Thunder Hill is challenging at best and at the start of the race Warn was able to hold his own and by lap five ease into the ninth position.
Warn steadily moved up and was challenging for the sixth spot when Blake Koch got trapped behind the lapped of Jack Sellers and decided to drive around on the high side. The only problem was Warn had already made the move to the top of the track to go around Koch. Koch bounced his ride of Warn leaving Warn spinning into the infield.
The resulting spin left Warn one lap down in the thirteenth position; a lap he was never able to make up. Warn cruised through the rest of the race passing many of the cars he had previously passed but was only able to get back to the tenth position by the time the race ended.
"I was really frustrated," Warn said. "Half the guys that finished in the top ten I had passed during the race but losing the lap hurt us. I would like to say I am happy about the finish but we had a much better car than the finish indicates. We'll take it and go to Roseville.
Warn is in his second full-time year in the NASCAR Camping World Series and the finish marks his fifth career top ten finish. The nest event for Warn and his MJ2 Racing team is Saturday, April 4 at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA.
