#16 NAPA Auto Parts Ready To Roll
Rocklin, CA - Driver of the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS/NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolet, Austin Cameron returns to competition for the first time since 2002 to California Speedway. The NAPA team competed in the event in April 2003 with driver Eric Norris where they finished 7th. In the last five NASCAR West events at California Speedway, the NAPA AUTO PARTS team recorded three top fives and five top tens with a trip to Victory Lane in 2001.
"We're ready to roll," said Cameron. "The team has really been putting in the hours getting ready. It's an exciting deal. I'm looking forward to this race."
"The last time we came here, I was undergoing chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and I was the spotter," continues Cameron. "Not quite the same as being the driver. We were scheduled to race here last fall but then the California wildfires happened and the event was cancelled. We've been looking forward to this race. The top five teams are all within 18 points. The #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS team plans on walking away after this race in the top spot and with all the fan and NAPA support, there is no doubt that we can do it."
Making his second appearance this season after a top 10 finish at Phoenix, driving the No. 20 NAPA Filters NASCAR Select/Richard Childress Racing Museum Chevrolet is NASCAR Busch Series driver, Clint Bowyer. Most recently, Bowyer recorded his first Busch Series Pole at Talladega Superspeedway.
"We came out to California earlier in the season and tested the No. 20," said Bowyer. "I have never been to California before. The track is fast and we really learned a lot. We're very close to getting the car how we want it for the race. We were able to get some good notes so we know what we need to do. I don't think we are far off."
"Mario Isola and the team from Bill McAnally Racing are setting up the car and then the RCR No. 21 Reese's Pieces Busch series team is going to pit the car. We're going to start up front and finish up front. We didn't come all the way out here from North Carolina for nothing," laughs Bowyer.
This race is the debut of NAPA Filters NASCAR Select as the primary sponsor on the #20 Chevrolet.
"We at BMR have had a long relationship with NAPA Filters," said team owner Bill McAnally. "NAPA Filters NASCAR Select will be the primary sponsor on the #20 in the NASCAR Grand National Division West Series at the race events held at California Speedway, Stockton 99 Speedway, Douglas County Speedway, Colorado National Speedway, and Irwindale Speedway. We are pleased to be a part of the rollout of this great product."
The No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS and the No. 20 NAPA Filters NASCAR Select/ Richard Childress Racing Museum teams will be making a run for the checkered flag on Saturday, May 1st in the "King Taco 200" at California Speedway.
