Jefferson Looking for Reversal of Fortune at Douglas County
NACHES, WASH. (July 10, 2008) Jeff Jefferson, driver of the MJ2 Racing Chevrolet, is looking for every way possible to get the monkey off his back. So far this season, the 800 pound gorilla has dogged Jefferson at every turn. He is hoping a visit to the Northwest will signal a return to form in NASCAR Camping World Series competition in round eight of the 2008 campaign.
After two straight did not finish results and a drop in the point standings to 14th, Jefferson and his MJ2 Racing team are solely focused on finishing races. "At this point we just need to finish races," Jefferson said. "We are really not looking at points anymore; rather it is all about trying to create some good luck. To be running in the top ten late in the race and to get involved in an accident is really disappointing."
Jefferson also knows that his team needs to make improvements in specific areas in order to help create some good luck. "There is no question that we need to qualify better," Jefferson stated. "The better you qualify, the better the cars you run with. We have gotten back to basics in the shop and hopefully the rest of the season we can make marked improvement in this area."
Qualifying will be particularly critical at Douglas County as the tight 3/8-mile paved oval historically has been a track that is hard to make passes on. "Douglas County is tough and you have to have a really good car under you," Jefferson said. "If you start up front you usually finish up front and starting up front is where we need to be."
After damaging his primary car last week at Irwindale, Jefferson has gone back to his short track car he started the season with. "I am really happy with the car," Jefferson explained. "We really did not have very good luck with it early in the year but we found a few things and it tested really well so I feel real good about our chances this week."
Jefferson drives a team car to Jim Warn and is sponsored by MJ2 Racing, Gran Prix Imports, and Leupold Optic. The car is powered by a Chevrolet NASCAR Spec Engine and sits atop a Hopkins chassis. Jefferson has 31 career NCWS starts with one win, 8 top five and 14 top ten finishes along with two Coors Light Pole Awards. Jefferson is currently 14th in the NCWS standings after seven races with one top five and two top ten finishes.
