Irwindale, Calif. - - (March 19, 2000) NASCAR vice president Tom Deery announced yesterday in Daytona Beach that all three Winston West races scheduled for Irwindale Speedway in the 2000 season will be televised by Speedvision. "We are pleased to announce that these NASCAR Winston West Series events will be televised to a national audience," said Deery. "The series has entered a new era and this TV package is a major part of that step forward."
The three races at Irwindale Speedway will all be sponsored by The Home Depot and include the June 24 Home Depot 250, August 19 Home Depot 250, and the November 11 Home Depot 300 which is also the Winston West season finale. "We've known about these plans since Daytona, but couldn't comment on them until NASCAR's announcement yesterday," said track VP Robert DeFazio. "Needless to say we're very pleased, this is really what this facility was built for; great racing and great TV viewing. Now fans across the nation can see for themselves what everyone is talking about. NASCAR Winston West is back as major professional series, and we're proud to be a part of that resurgence."
All of the eight short track races on the 2000 Winston West Series schedule will be televised by Speedvision in prime time on a tape-delay basis, making this expanded coverage the most extensive in the WWS' 46-year history. Irwindale Speedway will host 25% of all Winston West events this year (3 of 12) thus giving the one year-old "1/2-Mile Super Speedway" a crucial role in the TV package as the most-visited track in the series. Races at Mesa Marin Raceway (Bakersfield), Evergreen Speedway (Monroe, WA), Portland Speedway (Oregon), and Rocky Mountain Raceways (Salt Lake City) are all on the WWS TV schedule for 2000.
Tickets for all of Irwindale Speedway's thirty-six Super Saturday nights of family-style action are now also available on line through Tickets.com
