USAR: Glynn/Atkins/Humphrey sign Gabi DiCarlo

MOORESVILLE, NC (April 22, 2005)--Akins Motorsports team owner Doug Stringer announces a partnership with Randy Humphrey Racing and Glynn Motorsports through a driver development program with female driver Gabi DiCarlo.

Akins Motorsports has signed a multi-year contract with DiCarlo to compete in the Hooters Pro Cup Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Busch Series. This season, DiCarlo will participate in five Hooters Pro Cup events for Randy Humphrey Racing with a select few NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races with Glynn Motorsports and eventually the NASCAR Busch Series in 2006 with Akins Motorsports.

"I can't wait until Gabi gets the opportunity to show what she can do in a stock car," said Stringer. "We've tested her a few times with Randy Humphrey, and I'm extremely impressed with her talent. Akins Motorsports expects to see some big things from Gabi, and we couldn't be happier about this opportunity that we have to offer her through our partnership with Randy Humphrey Racing and Glynn Motorsports."

Great Clips, Inc., who is currently the sponsor of the No. 38 Dodge driven by Kasey Kahne and Tyler Walker in the NASCAR Busch Series, will also be the sponsor for DiCarlo in all three series in which she will participate.

"Great Clips is very excited about the partnership between Gabi and Akins Motorsports," said Great Clips Director of Brand Communications Ann Latendresse. "Our involvement in the motorsports venue has been a real 'plus' up to this point with the program that Akins has developed for the No. 38 car. We are looking forward to watching Gabi develop under the Akins team direction and leadership. From what we can tell, Gabi is the 'real deal' when it comes to racing."

DiCarlo was the 2004 Star Mazda Red Line Oil Championship Rookie of the Year and finished fifth in the point standings last season. She has been racing competitively for seven years, competing in the PKRA Series 80cc Jr. Shifter and 125cc Shifter, SKUSA World Finals, SKUSA Pro Moto Tour, USAC Formula Russell, Formula Barber Dodge Western Series, SCCA and the Star Mazda Red Oil Series.

"I am so thankful to Great Clips and Akins Motorsports for putting this program together for me," said DiCarlo. "I had such a fun time testing the Hooters Pro Cup car and also the Great Clips Busch car, and I can't wait until our first race. This is going to be a great progression for me since I'm new to stock cars, and I'm just honored that Doug (Stringer) and Great Clips have so much confidence in my abilities. I hope to exceed their expectations."

The 19-year-old driver from Phoenix, AZ, was the first female in the history of the PKRA Series to win a championship, which she captured in 2002. In 2003, DiCarlo won two SCCA Pro events in Formula Mazda. This season, DiCarlo has competed at California Speedway in the Star Mazda Series West Coast, where she qualified second in both events and finished first and third.

In addition to pursuing her racing career, DiCarlo is currently a sophomore at Arizona State University in Tempe and is majoring in business.

"We had an awesome test with Gabi (in our Hooters Pro Cup car)," said Randy and Stacey Humphrey, team owners of Randy Humphrey Racing. "She had really good car and throttle control, and we were very impressed with her ability, especially considering it was her first time racing in a stock car."

DiCarlo will make her Hooters Pro Cup debut on May 15 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Following that event, she will compete on June 11 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway, July 9 at Hickory Motor Speedway, July 23 at Southern National Speedway in Kenly, NC, and September 3 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL.

"I am excited to be a part of Gabi's up-and-coming career," said Scott Glynn, owner of Glynn Motorsports. "I'm also very grateful to be involved in this driver development program with Randy Humphrey Racing, Akins Motorsports and Great Clips."

Akins Motorsports was formed in 1993 and has fielded such drivers as Bobby Hamilton, Elton Sawyer, Dennis Setzer, Glenn Allen, Hut Strickland, Mark Green and Christian Elder in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and Busch Series. This season, drivers Kahne and Walker share driving duties behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips Dodge, and the team currently sits in 12th position in the NASCAR Busch Series owner point standings with three top fives, three top 10s and one victory. Last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, Kahne brought home his second career NASCAR Busch Series victory after making a pass for the lead with seven laps remaining.

Randy Humphrey Racing has been in operation for 10 years, competing in the Goody's Dash Series and beginning last season in the Hooters Pro Cup Series. Last season, the team finished 21st in the Hooters Pro Cup Series after competing in a limited schedule for its inaugural season. During its last season in the Goody's Dash Series which took place in 2003, the team finished in fourth position.

This is the first season for Glynn Motorsports in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The team, which is located in Mooresville, NC, plans to compete in more than 15 events this season.
