NASCAR Southwest Series Star Nursery. COM "150" at Tucson to be Run Sunday October 24
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (October 9, 2004) Officials for NASCAR and Tucson (Ariz.)Raceway Park have rescheduled the Star Nursery. COM "150" for the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series to Sunday, October 24, 2004. The event was originally scheduled for September 18 but inclement weather forced the event to be postponed. The race at Tucson will be race thirteen of the 14 race championship series.
With Tucson back on the schedule the points battle will certainly heat up as Jim Pettit II from Prunedale, Calif. leads Bakersfield, California's Craig Raudman by only ten points going into the final three events. Raudman's teammate Burney Lamar, also of Bakersfield holds down the third spot, with the most recent series winner Eric Holmes of Escalon, Calif. in the fourth position. 2002 series champion Eddy McKean from Jerome, Idaho rounds out the top five in the standings.
The race at Tucson will also be a welcome sign for several drivers fighting to get in the NASCAR Top 10 and earn an invite to the prestigious NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown that will be staged at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway November 11-13. Leading Rookie Rip Michels of Mission Hills, Calif. holds down the tenth spot in the standings with New Mexico's Danny Burson 52 points back. Fellow rookie Nick Lynch sits in the twelfth position 72 markers behind Burson.
AutoZone Southwest Series teams will park haulers and go through technical inspection on Saturday, October 23 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Then on Sunday, October 24 the pits will open at 8:00 a.m. for practice and qualifying with the Star Nursery. COM "150" presented by AutoZone scheduled to take the green flag at 2:00 p.m. PST. Also joining the Southwest Series on the afternoon racing card will be the NASCAR Late Models for a 50-lap contest and the Factory Stocks running twin 25-lap events.
