A Look at the NASCAR Elite Division, Featherlite Southwest Series Victory Circle Chassis 2003 Rookie-of-the-Year Standings
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 4, 2003) - The following is a glance at the NASCAR Elite Division, Featherlite Southwest Series Rookie class of 2003 heading into the Snap-On Tools/Jelly Belly "200" at Infineon Raceway Saturday, June 21. This will be race 6 of 14 on the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series schedule. After the race at Irwindale Speedway, JR Patton holds a three-point lead over Thomas Martin for the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie-of-the-Year Award.
No. 1 - JR Patton
(No. 97 Las Cruces Motorsports Chevrolet), Las Cruces Motorsports.
Last week's ranking: 3rd. Patton collected Rookie-of-the-Race honors for the first time this season with a podium finish of third place at Irwindale Speedway. Patton also jumped into the Victory Circle Chassis ROTY lead by three points over Martin. Patton won his first career Bud Pole Award at Irwindale and jumped back into the NASCAR Top 10 in 9th place.
No. 2 - Thomas Martin
(No. Sierra Mist Chevrolet), Penney Racing.
Last week's ranking: 1st. Martin dropped three points behind Patton after finishing 18th at Irwindale Speedway. Martin continues to finish races, which has kept him in the top 15 overall point standings all season. Martin has one top five finish in five starts this season.
No. 3 - Frank Deiny Jr.
(No. 70 Star Nursery Chevrolet), Q Motorsports.
Last week's ranking: 2nd. Deiny finished 28th at Irwindale dropping him in the overall point standings to 16th. In five starts this season, Deiny has one top five and one top ten finish. This will be Deiny's first visit to Infineon Raceway.
No. 4 - Greg Voigt
(No. 09 Auto Pro Racing Engines Chevrolet), Voigt Racing.
Last week's ranking: 4th. Voigt maintains his fourth place position in the rookie standings after a 15th place finish at Irwindale. Voigt has four starts this season and currently is 17th is the overall standings.
No. 5 - Kevin Vernon
(No. 51 Action Towing Chevrolet), Vernon Racing.
Last week's ranking: 6th. Vernon finished 16th at Irwindale and climbed back into the top 20 where he sits 19th. Vernon has no top ten finishes this season and looks to Infineon to change that stat.
No. 6 - Danny Burson
(No. 56 Great Western Electric Chevrolet), Burson Racing.
Last week's ranking: 5th. Burson scored a fourth place finish at Irwindale and got his season back on track. Burson has one top-five and two top-ten finishes and has moved into 20th place in the standings.
No. 7 - Randy Nelson
(No. 68 Nelson Racing Ford), Nelson Racing.
Last week's ranking: 7th. Nelson has dropped out of the ROTY program for 2003 after destroying his car at Cajon Speedway.
No. 8 - Nathan Thiesse
(No. 88 Honda Cars of Corona Chevrolet), The Body Shop Racing.
Last week's ranking: 7. Thiesse had another tough outing at Irwindale, failing to qualify for the third time this season. Thiesse has proven that he is competitive after finishing 6th at Mesa Marin Raceway earlier in the year. The 1.99 mile road course will provide even more challenges for Brainerd, Minn. native.
No. 9 - Mike Price
(No. 3 AMI Metals Chevrolet), Price Racing.
Last week's ranking: 9. Price finished 24th at Irwindale after qualifying 30th.
No. 10 - Chris Hines
(No. 96 Ironeagle Chevrolet) Pro Dyno Racing.
Last Week's ranking: N/A. Hines did not qualify for the Irwindale event.
No. 11 - Richard Johnson
(No. 47 Auto Glass Chevrolet), Johnson Racing.
Last week's ranking: N/A. Johnson did not qualify for the Irwindale event. Johnson is seeing many of the Featherlite Southwest Series tracks for the first time and learning that track experience can make the difference in qualifying. Johnson is a 20 year veteran of dirt racing in Northern California.

Victory Circle Chassis' offers a season ending bonus of $5,000 to the top finishing rookie at season ending banquet in December. Each rookie competitor earns rookie points for each race they start. No rookie points are awarded for races a rookie fails to qualify for. Points are awarded on a declining scale with the top finishing rookie receiving 10 points then 9,8.7 and so on. Each rookie will count their best 12 finishes of the 14 race schedule towards the 2003 Rookie-of-the-Year championship.
