Rancho Santa Margarita, California (July 30, 2001) - Craig Raudman, driver of Dave Reed Racing's #2 Yerf-dog Fun Karts/ITPS/Kingston Chevrolet in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, finished fifth in last Saturday's Foods Co 125 at Madera Speedway in Madera, Calif. after making an outstanding run for the win.
Raudman just barely missed adding a seventh Bud Pole Award for the season with a second-fastest qualifying time for the event.
The six-car invert gave Raudman a third row starting position, however he fought his way to the front and took the lead on lap 47. Raudman then set the pace until lap 108 when his fading car turned his sites from a win to a top-five finish.
"We made a good run, and we had a great car until the end there," Raudman said. "We're racing for wins, so we're disappointed at not being able to hold on at the end. We plan to take advantage of the time between now and the next event to put ourselves in a position to win the next one."
Raudman maintained his lead in the championship standings, extending it slightly to 123 points. He has two wins and six top-five finishes to date for the 2001 season, with six races remaining. Raudman has won six Bud Pole Awards this season, and recently broke the record by setting fast time in five consecutive events.
The Southwest Series will compete next on August 18 at Colorado National Speedway in Erie, Colo.
Dave Reed Racing operates NASCAR Winston West and Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring teams featuring Craig Raudman as driver. Raudman has collected ten wins and fifteen Bud Pole Awards throughout his Southwest Series career, and finished in the top five in final points standings in four of his past five full Southwest Series seasons.
