May 15, 2002 (Saugus, Calif.) - Sean Woodside heads to Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo. for this weekend's Southwest Series "100" intending to do everything possible to overtake the lead in the 2002 Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring championship points race.
Woodside is currently in second-place in the point standings, just 35 points out of the lead held currently by driver Burney Lamar.
The Southwest Series "100" is fifth on a schedule of fourteen events for the 2002 Southwest Series season. Woodside has maintained a top-five points position throughout the season to date, and is well-positioned to move into the top spot this weekend.
An accomplished short-track racer, Woodside has also accumulated a track record of great finishes at the larger speedways throughout the West. He has driven both NASCAR Winston West Series and Southwest Series race cars at Pikes Peak. Woodside has accumulated three top-five finishes in four attempts at the one-mile oval, and qualified for a front-row starting position in the 1999 Winston West event.
"We are looking forward to the Pikes Peak race," Woodside commented. "A lot of hard work has gone into putting together a car that will take us to the front. I appreciate the dedication of all of the guys who are commuting to Bakersfield and putting so many hours into the race car."
Woodside's operation is currently located in Bakersfield, Calif. at crew chief Mike Harvick's shop.
"I am happy to say that Mike Harvick, who has been a great influence on both me and the team, continues to be involved with us," Woodside emphasized. "He is an extremely important factor in our chase for the championship."
