Travis Bennett and Team Geared Up For Copper World Classic
Many teams are preparing for the 2005 season and Travis Bennett is no exception as he gets ready to travel to Phoenix, Arizona to make his first appearance at the one-mile venue, Phoenix International Raceway in the Copper World Classic. The event, which takes place on January 30th, marks the beginning of the race season for many drivers and it is an event that Bennett has waited a long time to compete in.
"I've always wanted to race at Phoenix! I've been there several times to watch but never had the opportunity to race there until this year,? Bennett said.
Experience is the key when it comes to Phoenix International Raceway and that is what Bennett is hoping to gain his first time there. And to help speed up the learning process he will have the experience of another racer to draw from this weekend, as fellow competitor Zach Niessner is flying in to help the team.
"Our goals are to get as much seat time as possible and to put down a decent qualifying lap to put us in the show. I know it will be an eye opener but with the skill of my team and the help of Zach Niessner, I think we have a good shot at reaching our goals," Bennett said.
Although this is not a points race for DS Racing, it is for the Southwest Series regulars who will be led into the first race by defending champion Jim Pettit.
"I love racing in the Southwest, the competition is great. It's really no different from the Northwest to me, just a great group of hard racers like myself. It's been a long winter and I can?t wait to get back behind the wheel again. It should be a lot of fun!" Bennett says.
After a successful 2004 season, the defending Auto Meter Rookie of the Year looks to his sophomore season to be bigger and better. "We definitely accomplished a lot last season on the Autozone Northwest Series, most notably winning the Auto Meter Rookie of the year title and coming within one point of the series championship. I learned a lot last year and so did my team and that will only help us this year in our quest for the championship," Bennett stated.
A venture to Phoenix would not be possible without the continued support from the sponsors of DS Racing. Travis Bennett would like to thank Bowmans Electro Painting, Zeb?s Truck Stop/Speedway Cafe, Knudson Lumber, A-1 Petroleum, Rainbow Enterprises and Nutter Racing for their continued support.
