Midget driver Ken Nichols, who suffered a severe concussion Saturday during the USAC midget consolation race at Phoenix remains in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix. (350 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix AZ, 85013-4496).

Nichols, 43 of Indianapolis is showing some signs of improvement and responding to some questions.

Ronnie Johncox, who was also injured in the crash was released Sunday from St. Joseph's.

David Byrd, who suffered burns to his face and neck in a Southwest Tour NASCAR series remained in the intensive care unit at the Maricopa County Burn Unit A Phoenix International Rraceway official says Byrd is stabilizing and showing signs of improvement.

Danny Drinan, who was injured in a Silver Crown race accident at the Walt Disney Speedway, feels he'll be back in a couple of weeks. He said missing the Copper was driving him nuts. Drinan is still in obvious pain and requires a wheel chair. "But I'll be back," he said, "believe me."
