IRWINDALE, CALIF. (June 18, 2005) Burney Lamar from West Sacramento, Calif. continued his quest for his first NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series title by capturing his thirteenth career Bud Pole Award and second of the season Saturday afternoon at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. Lamar toured the ultra-fast half-mile paved oval with a quick lap of 17.756 seconds/101.374 mph to top 28 cars in qualifying. Northwest Series regular Gary Lewis timed in second quick with Auggie Vidovich, Greg Pursley, and Brandon Riehl rounding out the top five.

Lamar drew an eight-car invert for the Advantage Ford "100" putting current series point leader Jim Pettit II on the pole to start the 100-lap event. The event at Irwindale Speedway is the sixth race of the 14-race schedule for the Southwest Series.
