NASCAR's AutoZone Elite Southwest Series Headlines Racing Action at Altamont Motorsports Park

TRACY, Calif., June 29, 2006 - NASCAR racing roars into the Altamont Motorsports Park this Sunday, July 2nd, as NASCAR's AutoZone Elite Southwest Touring series headlines a show which also features NASCAR's Division II Weekly Racing Series and the SRL Wildwest Late Models.

Central Valley racer, Eric Holmes, currently leads the AutoZone Elite Southwest Touring series by 30 points over Eddy McKean and Rip Michels who are tied for second with 475 points.

Holmes, a Salida Calif. native, recently placed second at a combined AutoZone Elite Southwest and Midwest Touring Series event at the Colorado National Speedway in Erie, Colo, being edged out by Midwest driver, Josh Vadnais, by just .986 seconds.

Holmes won the last Southwest Series event at the Tracy, Calif. facility back in 2002. The NASCAR AutoZone Elite Southwest Touring Series is set to take to the 1/2 mile oval for the "Altamont Motorsports Park 150" at 7:10PM on Sunday evening.

The SRL Wildwest Late Models will kick off the main racing events at 5pm for a 100 Lap race on the 1/2-mile. Sunday's SRL Wildwest event marks the sixth consecutive year the touring series has made a stop at the track. Eric Schmidt of Roseville, Calif currently leads the the 2006 SRL Wildwest Late Model point standings with one win and three top five finishes this season.

Altamont Motorsports Park's Tracy Dodge Western Late Models will compete in NASCAR Division II Weekly Racing Series action with a 50 Lap event on the 1/2 mile oval.

Points leader, Dave Byrd, will be looking for his third consecutive Tracy Dodge Western Late Model victory and his fourth win of the season. While Byrd has had an impressive tally in the win column this year, Tracy's Ryan Philpott has kept a close edge on Byrd's point lead, with just five points separating Philpott from Byrd in the point standings.

Also on tap for Sunday will be the Mini Super Trucks who have seen four different winners in four events this season.

Qualifying is set for 2:30pm on Sunday followed by Trophy Dashes and qualifying races, if needed, at 4:30pm. Practice starts at 10:30am.
