2003 Featherlite Southwest Series schedule announced.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (December 14, 2002) -- NASCAR has announced the 2003 Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR touring schedule, which consists of 14 races at nine tracks. The schedule will open and close at Phoenix International Raceway, and this 1.0-mile facility is now home to three Featherlite Southwest Series races including an additional date in October.

"The Featherlite Southwest Series continues to be one of NASCAR's most popular series, among fans, competitors and tracks," said Chris Boals, NASCAR's director of regional touring. "In 2002, more than 120 teams competed in the series. With this exciting schedule we've put together for 2003, we fully expect the Featherlite Southwest Series to maintain its reputation as the top Late Model touring series in the Southwest."

Following the traditional season-opener at Phoenix Feb. 2, the teams swing through California with events at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, Cajon Speedway, Stockton 99 Speedway and Infineon Raceway in Sonoma before a mid-season break in July. The action resumes July 26 at Madera Speedway.

On September 20, the series returns to Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park, which had been a traditional stop on the series for many years before a one-year hiatus for the 2002 season. Two events -- June 21 at Infineon Raceway and Oct. 30 at Phoenix -- will be held in conjunction with NASCAR Winston Cup Series events.
