(South Boston, VA) A record 43 cars showed up for open practice Saturday November 8 at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway in preparation for the season finale, the Bailey's 300 Hometown Challenge presented by Virginia is for Lovers on November 15, 2003. The Bailey's 300 is the crowning glory of the 2003 late model season that not only boasts one of the richest paydays for NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series with a posted purse of over $61,000, but will also have national TV coverage. Speed Channel will air the race on Saturday December 27 at 9:00 p.m. and then again on Saturday December 29 at 1:00 p.m.

Over 50 entries have already been accepted for what is considered the Daytona 500 of short tracks and more are coming in daily. "We are happily processing more entries everyday", says Track GM Cathy Rice. "Car count has been a concern for all tracks this year and we are pleased that we have had a strong entry list so far. We expect that number to increase over the next week leading up to raceday. Strong competition has always been a part of the year-ending Bailey's 300."

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series National Champion, Mark McFarland is scheduled to compete. McFarland will pull "double duty" that weekend, making his debut in the Craftsman Truck Race at Homestead Speedway in Florida on Friday November 14 and the Bailey's 300 on Saturday November 15. McFarland will have someone else qualify his late model car on Friday then fly in on Saturday to resume control of the wheel.

On-track action starts on Friday, November 14 with gates opening at 12 Noon for two hours of practice followed by qualifying at 3:30 pm. Admission on Friday is only $5 for adults 16 years and older, children 15 and under will be admitted free.

On Saturday, November 15, grandstand gates open at 10:00 am with qualifying races beginning at 12 noon and a "last chance" race set for 1:30 pm The debut of the Ford Focus Midgets main event is scheduled for 2:15 pm. The Bailey's 300 will begin at 3:00 pm. Admission for Saturday is $20 for Adult General Admission, $30 for Reserved Seats, $10 for youth 10-15 and children nine and under is as always, free. A $15 Backstretch ticket will also be available on raceday only.
