Jose Luis Ramirez - A Profile

One of the 70 top NASCAR touring drivers in the USA, a young Jose Luis Ramirez from Mexico City, Mexico is ready to meet and race 29 other champion drivers from around the country as they all converge on Irwindale Speedway for the $500,000 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown on November 11 and 12.

This will be Jose Luis's first time in the Showdown. "Jose Luis is such a bright and happy-go-lucky kid, he's always playing with his ever-improving English vocabulary," said his car owner Joe Nava. "He's also a hard worker, he does a lot of the work on his car at the shop, he never seems to get tired, he keeps us all going when it gets very late some time."

However, Jose Luis' jovial around the shop attitude stops cold when his helmet is on and he's strapped-in behind the wheel in his rojo brillante #17 Jugos Del Valle Ford Taurus. "He's all business out on the race track -- We can't shut him up during the week at the shop, but during the race he's all one syllable words and very few of those!" said Nava.

"Making the All-Star in only my second year in the series is a great thing, the twenty-five year old former Mexican national 125cc karting champion. Jockey sized (5 feet even) Jose Luis drivers the heaviest cars on the NASCAR championship trail -- The Grand National West machines. Weighing in at 3,300 and packing some 650 horsepower under their manly all-metal bodies, these big bad boys are only about a four-barrel carburetor away from being Nextel Cup cars!

"I love these cars and I love racing them on the American ovals tracks all over the southwest," Ramirez says. "My driving experience in Mexico was mostly on the road courses, but, when NASCAR comes to Mexico to run a Busch Series race next year, I'll be ready to run hard.

I'm very proud of my team and my crew. We had some very tough going in the 2004 season. But we hung together, and we're in the All-Star this year. I'm thinking that we're going to win!"
