Roush Racing: Driver X Contestant Wins NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, AutoZone Elite Division

CONCORD, N.C.- Roush Racing: Driver X contestant Auggie Vidovich, of Lakeside, Calif. pulled off a big win in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, AutoZone Elite Division at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday night.

Vidovich took the green flag for the third-annual event from the eighth position, and worked his way to the front of the field, taking the lead at lap 76. He never looked back, leading to the end of the 125-lap feature race.

The win was the first for Vidovich at Irwindale and in the Showdown. "I've hated this track at times but I love it tonight," exclaimed Vidovich from victory lane.

The NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown is an invitational event where the top 10 drivers from each of the four series that comprise the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division compete for a share of a $500,000 purse. Vidovich joins champions are Ron Breese Jr., of DeKalb, Ill. (2003), and Eric Holmes, of Escalon, Calif. (2004).

Just two days earlier, Vidovich came up just short in his bid for a second NASCAR AutoZone Elite Southwest Division Championship at the season finale, The Arizona Lottery 125 at Phoenix International Raceway. He finished fifth in the event, losing the championship by a mere 34 points.

"It's been a great week," said Vidovich. "I wish we could have pulled off winning the championship, but winning the Showdown helps take some of that sting away. I'm so proud of what we've been able to do with this Centrifugal Technologies car. 2005 has really been a great year for us, and for me personally."

Roush Racing: Driver X gives viewers an inside look into the driver selection and testing process known as the Gong Show. Roush Racing: Driver X airs on Discovery Channel, Monday nights at 8:00 pm, EST.
