MONTGOMERY, AL. (June 2 2001) - Eddie Mercer finally broke into the winner's circle with the Gatorade All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring Saturday night in his 45th career start winning the $49, 550 Express Oil Change 200. Mercer, with his Everwood/Phoenix Construction Chevrolet took the lead from Billy Bigley Jr. on lap 186 with a bold inside move in turn one on the half-mile oval and never looked back. Mercer used some strategy in his win, staying on the track when most of the front runners pitted for fresh rubber on lap 77. He assumed the point then made his pit stop for fresh Hoosier tires on lap 113 during the sixth race caution. Rounding out the top six finishers was Bigley followed by new series points leader Randy Gentry, Shane Sieg with another outstanding run, Bud Pole winner Jeff Fultz and Ryan Crane all on the lead lap. Wireway/Husky Corporation Rookie-of-the-Year points leader Jody Lavender finished finished seventh, one lap off the pace.
