All Pro Big Guns Face Tough Local Challengers In Ingles 200 At Greenville Pickens Speedway

GREENVILLE, SC (April 27, 2001)- The big guns of NASCAR's Gatorade All Pro Series are scheduled to square off against top local talent in Saturday's Ingles 200 at Greenville Pickens Speedway. 2000 Series champion Billy Bigley dominated in the spring race last year at the track, with Wayne Anderson taking the checkers in the late summer 200 lap feature. Anderson has won the last two All Pro races, and Bigley holds a narrow early points lead after three races. But the wild card in Saturday's event could be local favorite Randy Gentry who is currently running third in the All Pro points battle. Gentry, an Easley native, begin his racing career at Greenville Pickens and is considered a strong contender in the Ingles 200.

"Naturally, I enjoy coming back to my home track and running for the hometown fans," Gentry said in a Friday morning radio interview. "It takes a lot of skill to get around Greenville Pickens being that it is a flat 1/2 mile, but if you give Billy (Bigley) or Wayne (Anderson) 30 minutes of practice out there they can get around the track just as quick as anyone".

Other local contenders include Steven Howard of Greer, the 1996 track champion, and Mardy Lindley of Taylors. Additionally, the Ingles 200 will see the return of past series champion Jody Ridley, who dominated the series in the early 90s. Ridley last raced at the track in 1995.

Additional racing action is scheduled for the Super Stocks and the Charger divisions. Backstretch gates will open at 10am, with the grandstand gates opening at 1pm. All Pro practice is scheduled from 1 to 3pm, with qualifying set for 6pm. The first race is set to go at 8pm. Adult general admission is $20.00, with children under 12 admitted free with a paying adult. The Greenville Pickens Speedway is located at the intersection of highways 123 and 124 between Greenville and Easley.
