Rico Abreu earns first NASCAR win in K&N East race

In just seven career starts, Rico Abreu is already a NASCAR winner.

Rico Abreu has been making a mark on the NASCAR world ever since his victory in the 29th running of the Chili Bowl Nationals, earlier this year. The reigning USAC National champion was launched into the spotlight with the win, signing with NASCAR team HScott Motorsports soon after.

Racing a stock car and racing on pavement in general was unfamiliar territory for the 23-year-old, but he has impressed a lot of people in his short time running the NASCAR regional circuit.

The 4ft 4in tall racer made his NASCAR debut at New Smyrna, finishing 17th. Since then, he's only shown progress with back-to-back top ten results to follow the debut. He earned pole position for the last two K&N East races and just this past weekend, scored his first victory in Columbus, Ohio.

Abreu led 86 of 150 laps en route to the popular victory and now sits ninth in the championship standings. Close friends and NASCAR Sprint Cup stars Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. commented on Abreu's first stock car triumph on Twitter.

They were among many prominent names across the motorsports world to offer their congratulations to the NASCAR Next member.
