"ONE LAST RACE TO MAKE THE CHASE" AGAIN IN 2009
America's Premier Short Track Hosts Two NASCAR Doubleheader Weekends
Richmond, VA (August 19, 2008)-- NASCAR officials announced the 2009 Sprint Cup Series schedule today and Richmond International Raceway will once again host two races in the country's premier motorsports series, including the final race before The Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. For the sixth consecutive year, the Chevy Rock & Roll 400--scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2009--will set the field for next year's Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, making it "One Last Race to Make The Chase."
"We are thrilled to host the final race before The Chase for the sixth consecutive season," said track president Doug Fritz. "Richmond International Raceway is a favorite among drivers, crew chiefs, teams, NASCAR insiders and fans across the world. By hosting the prestigious 26th race again in 2009, America's Premier Short Track further maintains its position as one of the best motorsports facilities in the world."
NASCAR's top national series will make its first visit to Richmond International Raceway in 2009 on Saturday, May 2, when The Crown Royal Presents The Your Name Here 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race runs "under the lights."
NASCAR also announced the 2009 Nationwide Series schedule this afternoon, and the racing season at America's Premier Short Track will commence next year with the Lipton Tea 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Friday, May 1. The Nationwide Series will return to Richmond International Raceway in September, when the Emerson Radio 250 kicks off the second NASCAR doubleheader weekend at America's Premier Short Track on Friday, September 11.
While the news today was about next year's slate, the excitement for the upcoming 2008 Chevy Rock & Roll 400 continues to build. With limited opportunities remaining for the stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to race their way into The Chase, the "One Last Race To Make The Chase" event will certainly once again be one of the most entertaining races of the season. Tickets are still available for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 and start at $80. Log on to www.rir.com or call 866-455-RACE for ticket information.
