LAS VEGAS - Las Vegans Dave Quartaro and Scott Gafforini collected wins in the two NASCAR Late Model main events Saturday night at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Quartaro took the lead from Jeff Wright of San Diego on lap eight of the first 25-lap NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model feature. By the halfway point, Rick Cobb, a Las Vegas resident, was challenging for the point. Cobb had problems after the second caution leaving Quartaro to hold off Jerry Allec of Carson City, Nev.

"This was my first late model win of my career," said Quartaro, the 1999 track champion in the Limited Late Model Division. "I can't say enough about it. Rick Cobb was a threat. Something happened to him, and it opened the door for me. Then I just had to hold everyone off. I've been waiting for this all year. Awesome."

In the second 25-lap NASCAR Late Model main event, Gafforini started fifth but found his way to the second-place position by the second lap. He followed Steve Anderson until lap 13 when he was able to take the lead. Gafforini pulled away from the field leaving Dick Cobb and Chuck Trickle to battle for second. Trickle, who is in second in points to Cobb, took the runner-up spot with five laps to go.

"Anytime you beat Steve Anderson, Dick Cobb and Chuck Trickle heads up you're doing something right," said Gafforini, who finished fourth in the first main event. "I have three wins so far this season. We'll see if we can keep it up."

In the 30-lap Grand American Modified main event, Jerry Walton motored past C.J. Sherkenbach on lap 18 to claim the point. During the final 10 laps Walton, Doug Hamm and Sherkenbach were nose to tail, but Walton held on for the victory.

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much," said Walton, who is a Clark County Firefighter. "I can't ask for anything better than this. Every cent we made tonight is a big hit for the Burn Fund. We donate all of our winnings to the Burn Fund. So far this year we have donated over $1300."

In the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends race, Kyle Busch took the win. Tom Youmans claimed the win in the Charger Division. In Mini Stocks Casey Kingsland visited victory lane. In the Bandoleros, Justin Johnson claimed the victory. Johnson, Joey Mogar and Joshua Gross will represent LVMS at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Bandolero Nationals.
