The McKean Kronicles-Final Chapter
ERIE, Colo. (June 5, 2004, 10:10 pm MST) Eddy McKean could only called the Auto Trader "150" at Colorado National Speedway Division, Midwest Series a good test session. Justin Dericks won the race followed by Brian Hoppe, and Ryan Hansen. McKean ran with the leaders most of the race but lost a lap for repairs after a lap 10 crash the started when Greg Fowler bounced of the turn four wall sending several cars looking for cover. McKean had the wreck missed but was slapped from behind causing significant rear end damage.
The race was slowed for only three cautions, but with McKean losing a lap early all he had to do was look for the positive and call the race a test for the Southwest Series event to be staged back here August 21. Instead of mile high magic, it was more about new car blues as the team struggled all day to find the set up that would work.
After several long hours of reengineering the new car, the car rolled onto the grid. Eddy brought the car home in one piece, so to speak, and finished the event 3 laps down in the 20th position. The car will need to back on the surface plate when they get home and straighten the rear end that was bent in the lap ten crash.
McKean and crew will have to work hard al week preparing two cars for the upcoming Northwest Series race at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho next Saturday night. Steve Jones will be driving a team car with McKean racing in his Northwest Series debut. McKean finished 9th last season at MVS after making a pass for the lead on lap 148 of 150, but contact with the another car sent McKean spinning out of contention. McKean is looking for redemption and a bright spot after three tough weeks of racing.
The next Southwest Series event is Saturday, June 26 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. McKean currently sits fourth in the Southwest Series point standings with three top ten finishes including one win this season.
