MB2 Motorsports Plays Active Role in the Drive for Diversity
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 19, 2006) -- The initial success of the Drive for Diversity (D4D) program can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of those involved with the program -- especially the team owners, such as those at MB2 Motorsports. MB2 is returning as a partner in the program for the second season, fielding a team in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series for California native Jesus Hernandez.
"Developing young drivers is the wave of NASCAR's future and Jesus has demonstrated the talent and passion it takes to be successful," said MB2 Motorsports CEO and General Manager Jay Frye. "This is an exciting endeavor for MB2 and our plan is to accelerate Jesus' progression."
Hernandez will pilot the No. 14 Waste Management Chevrolet this season at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway, Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va. In three starts this year, Hernandez has two top-10 finishes, including a fifth-place finish at Hickory.
"It is a great feeling when you become a part of an established and respected organization such as MB2 as well as continuing to receive the ongoing support that Waste Management has given me." said Hernandez. "I feel we have a lot of potential to run competitively on a weekly basis and a great opportunity for me to continue to acquire valuable seat time in race-winning equipment."
The 25-year-old is a second generation American whose family was involved in motorsports in Mexico. Hernandez has been racing for nine years and has captured rookie of the year awards and track championships in the Grand American Modified division.
"The support of MB2 Motorsports and Waste Management has helped bring more diversity to NASCAR," said Tish Sheets, NASCAR director of diversity. "Through their involvement in NASCAR's diversity initiatives, new opportunities have been created and new doors have been opened."
NASCAR will spotlight teams, tracks, sponsors and partners throughout the year for significant contributions and achievement in diversity. NASCAR will also be highlighting diverse drivers currently competing throughout the different levels of the sport.
