KEVIN HARTNETT IS DETERMINED AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 6, 2000 . . . "My goal is to win every race we enter," said Kevin Hartnett when asked about his plans and goals for the 2000 season at Grandview Speedway. It may be a somewhat unrealistic goal but it shows how determined the Perkasie, PA NASCAR Modified stock car racer is. Hartnett will be in action at the NASCAR sanctioned Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA this Saturday and each Saturday throughout the season. The 5 p.m. shows feature the NASCAR Modifieds, Exide Shortrack Late Models and PA Sportsman stock cars. At least 13 events of "good old fashioned stock car racing" are presented. "We really had to throw this team together at the last minute. We did not have time to seek sponsorship support. We really thought we had a deal to drive for another team but that fell apart just a couple of weeks before the started. It is just going to be week-to-week this season. As long as our finances hold out, we will be here," said the 31 year old racing talent. "I thought I had a pretty good season, not great, last year. It was a decent year. There were some personality clashes but overall it went well. But at the end of the season I knew it was time to move on." Hartnett drove for the Rod Breitenstein #14 Modified team in 1999. Keith Brightbill is in that seat this season. What little sponsorship support Hartnett has for his team this season comes from his own Kevin Hartnett Lettering (they lettered more than 50 races car this year), Hoffman Brothers Speed & Performance, Fastners Specialties, and Juniper Auto Body. Over the years the youthful looking driver has won 3 features at Flemington Speedway (when it was dirt), one at Penn National and 4 each at Big Diamond and Grandview. He is a consistent top performer at Grandview Speedway despite not being one of the best financed teams. Despite the financial shortcomings Kevin continues to filed "decent, up-to-date equipment." "With what it cost to go racing each night, I don't know how long we can run two shows a week, Sunday at Big Diamond and Grandview Speedway on Saturday evenings. We keep a very close eye on money. Making the feature field is a priority with us. That money is what keeps us racing," said Kevin. "Fortunately I have some great crew members in Tom Montgomery (crew chief), Joe Glassic, Scott Rash and Kevin Huber. And my Mom (Marian Hartnett) helps as does my wife, Karen. Without all them I could never do this." And Kevin has nothing but great things to say about Ron Robbins who was very supportive of his racing career until serious illness caused him to give up auto racing. When asked about the highlight of his career, Hartnett said, "Each feature win is a highlight. Hasn't won any big ones. Perhaps the highlights of my career are yet to come." When NASCAR Modified action gets the green flag on Saturday night, 5 p.m., at Grandview Speedway, Hartnett will be ready to go racing. He has some tough competition in the form of Ray Swinehart, his brother Jack Hartnett, Kerry Kratz, Tom Mayberry, Keith Brightbill, Donny Erb and many others. The Saturday night show features the NASCAR Modifieds, Exide Late Models and PA Sportsman. Admission for adults is just $12.00, youngsters 6 thru 11 are admitted for $3.00 and under 6 are admitted FREE. Grandview Speedway is located just of Route 100, Passmore Road, 10 miles north of Pottstown, in Bechtelsville, PA. Telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
