Jacksonville, Florida (September 8, 1999 ) Racing action will be exciting once again at Jax Raceway's half mile NASCAR sanctioned track next week as the track continues to host special events. The 40-lap event for the Open Wheel Modified division should attract over 25 cars that pays a better total purse throughout the field. The night will begin with qualifying for the premiere Late Model division and the Open Wheel Modifieds, followed by heat events and features for all other speedway divisions.

The night's action will also be the end of the points race for the season in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Late Model division. The points will be figured up next week, and the national and regional champions will be announced. Jeff Godbee, the current point's leader at Jax Raceways will be guaranteed a top 10 spot in the Sunbelt Region. Godbee has remained in the top five since taking over the track points earlier in the season. Godbee has 14 wins in 25 starts. The national and regional points are based on the driver's best 20 events.

Action last weekend saw a new name up front in the Late Model 50 lap event, as former division champion Steve Whitener of Middleburg, Florida set fast time in qualifying action. Whitener took an early lead in the 50-lap event, and looked as though he could hold off the challenge of Godbee. Clutch failure, however, slowed Whitener's car, allowing Godbee to make the pass for the lead, where he would stay to add the win to his year's worth of accomplishments. Whitener would hold on for second, with Michael Murrer in third, with Johnny Collins and Buster Delay making up the top five.

Randy Clark Jr. was back in victory lane once again in the Hobby Stock feature event. Clark took the lead from the drop of the green flag and never looked back. Joey Miller and Randy Clark Sr. rubbed sheet metal for the entire last lap to race for the runner up spot, with Miller winning the battle at the stripe, and Randy Clark Sr. following in third. Fourth and fifth was Gary Godwin and defending champion Tony Callaway.

The Powder Puff division saw point leader Cindy Holton stretched her points lead over three time defending champion Karen Greenslet with another feature win. Holton led in flag to flag fashion with Robin Wilson in second, Julia Callaway in third, Greenslet in fourth and Misty Beebe rounding out the top five. Holton holds a slim four-point advantage in the point chase.

Priscilla Yergy continues to have a banner season in the Pure Stock division, claiming her fifth event of the season. Hardy Jarvis crossed in second with Ray Pruett, point's leader Darren Greenslet and Wade McBride making up the top five.

Steve Whitener once again was racing in two divisions at the half mile "D" shaped oval. Whitener bested his second place finish in the Late Model event by one in the Open Wheel Modified 20 lap race. Whitener was clearly the class of the field, as he ran away with the win by as much as a half a track. It was Whitener's fourth win in eleven starts this year. Kevin Bayless and Eddie Holton followed in second and third, with point's leader Bobby Balkcom and Mitch McCoy rounding out the top five.
