Irwindale, Calif. - - Drivers in the NASCAR Automobile Club of Southern California Late Models will get their mettle tested this Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway as they take part in a "Twin 40" contest that will see them running two relatively short sprint races on the same night, with both counting full points toward the championship.

A rainout a couple of weeks back makes the "double dip" necessary. "We really don't like to put the drivers and crews through this kind of extra work," said Competition Director Lester Boyer, "But we need to run enough races for our drivers to qualify for the nationwide NASCAR points program."

It'll be a real workout for sure for these Auto Club-backed teams, and a strategy game as well. Teams must go for maximum points in each event but even more importantly, they must NOT get a DNF. If you are running for the championship (and a possible "dream vacation" courtesy of the Auto Club), good points in each race may well be better than a win and a goose egg in the results column on the track's website (www.irwindalespeedway.com).

Scott Youngren leads the ACLM points with Mike Price and Dave Hessing in close pursuit in second and third. But that composition could change in a twinkling with one hundred points on the line on this one Saturday night.

Regardless of how the various teams play their hands, Saturday's twin races for this very competitive class will be more "must see" racing at "LA's Half-Mile Super Speedway".

In the King Taco Legends Cars, Tom Landreth leads the standings with Brent Jones and (Tom's brother) Ted Landreth second and third in points. Rod Johnson Leads the Grand American Modifieds, and Greg Tucker is currently first in the Mini-Stocks.

The action gets under way when the gates open at 4PM. Practice, qualifying, the totally family-friendly King Taco On-Track Autograph Session at 6PM (don't miss it!) and racing at 7PM. Tickets are easy to get through the track's website (www.irwindalespeedway.com), by phone (626) 358-9625, or in person at the on-site track box office Tuesday through Saturday right up until race time.
