Irwindale, Calif. - - NASCAR racing 2003 will be on display and open to the public at no charge on Saturday, March 22, when the Automobile Club of Southern California presents its annual Open House at Irwindale Speedway. Admission and parking are both FREE to the public for the noon-until-9PM event which will feature practice sessions for virtually every division of racing car that competes at the Speedway. "This is the last tune-up of the pre-season, 'Spring Training' if you will," said Competition Director Lester Boyer. "Everyone's very eager to get the season going, there are a number of new faces and tons of old pros who want to start piling up points right now -- They all know that there's a long season ahead, and they're looking to put some points in the bank early."
On Saturday, March 22, drivers, car owners, sponsors, and fans will all be encouraged to 'mix and mingle' at Irwindale, welcoming back old friends and making new ones. "We'll call all the race cars into the Pit Area at 5PM and have an hour for fans to visit and get autographs from their favorites," said track general manager Bob DeFazio. "When cars are running, we can't let the youngsters into the Pit Area, this special 5 to 6PM quiet hour will give all the drivers and crews a chance to catch their breath and meet some of their fans." At 6PM fans will be asked to return to the grandstands and practice will resume until 9PM that evening.
Victor Arana, the Irwindale Concession Manager and DeFazio came up with a great way to say "Welcome Back and Thank You" to all of the fans and the racers as well. "Everything in the Snack Stand will be $1.00 on Saturday, March 22. Dogs, Drinks, Fries, Burgers, Churros -- Everything that we regularly sell at the Pit Area concession stand will be just a buck -- Fans should bring their kids, their cameras, their autograph books AND a good healthy appetite when they visit the Speedway on Auto Club Open House Day," he invited.
One week later, March 29, will be Opening Night 2003 beginning Irwindale's fifth season of action-packed NASCAR Weekly Racing presented by Dodge. That event is number one is a string of 32 nights of live and close-up short track racing.
The 2003 NASCAR excitement is already in the air at Irwindale Speedway, and March 22nd's complimentary event night at the races should get the fever to the white-hot stage. New names, old favorites, and young guns moving up the ladder of NASCAR stardom -- All of that very soon at the place that they call, "LA's Half-Mile Super Speedway".
