The Bullring at LVMS celebrated Independence Day.

LAS VEGAS-- A huge crowd enjoyed the 3rd Annual July Blastoff at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday night for The Orleans NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge. Fireworks, a jet car burn, demolition derby and racing highlighted the event.

Thane Alderman posted his third NASCAR Late Model win this season in the 75-lap feature. Alderman passed Scott Gafforini on lap 21 to take second. On a restart after a caution period, Alderman passed race leader Mike Cofer on the inside to take command. Alderman maintained his lead to take the checkered flag. Cofer finished second followed by Steve Anderson and Ray Hooper Jr.

"For the first 40 laps we took it easy," Alderman said. "I took advantage of the restart and passed Cofer."

Rick Rogas collected his first Legends Cars win this season in the 30-lap main event. Rogas passed rookie and race leader Alex Haase on lap 8. The Henderson resident held off the 28-car field through two cautions for the win. Rookies Taylor Barton and Haase proved strong to finish second and third respectively. Aric Wiszt finished fourth followed by Jerry Jones.

"The car has been the fastest out here for a month," Rogas said. "We have the car figured out. We are driving a little harder."

Fastest I.M.C.A. Modified qualifier, Charlie Wahl took the checkered flag in the 30-lap main event. On lap 22, Wahl passed long-time race leader Donny Williams for the lead to post his first win this season. Williams finished second followed by Doug Hamm and Mark Allison.

"I was just trying to be patient," Wahl said. "I just passed one car at a time. That is all we can do."

Dan Carlson won $500 for his win in the smash-up crash-up demolition derby.
