GREENVILLE, SC (June 1, 2001)- When the first regional standing of the season were released by the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series this week, Donnie Bishop found himself alone at the top of the highly touted Blue Ridge regional standings. The Greenville native and veteran driver's six wins in nine starts this season had him head and shoulder above the track leaders from nine other tracks throughout the Southeast as midseason approaches.

Bishop and a host of Late Model competitors return to action this Saturday at the Greenville Pickens Speedway, and he hopes to rebound from a season worst showing last week. Bishop was gathered into a backstretch tangle during warm-up laps which involved several of the top competitors. He was forced to drive in a borrowed racer and turned in a season low 12th place finish.

In addition to the 35 lap feature event, additional racing action is scheduled for the Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and Charger divisions. Gates will open at 4pm on Saturday, with qualifying at 6, and the first race set to go at 8pm. Adult general admission will be $10.00, with children under 12 admitted free with a paying adult. The Greenville Pickens Speedway is located at the intersection of highways 123 and 124 between Greenville and Easley. For more information, visit their website at www.greenvillepickens.com, or call the track office at (864)269-0852.

The "Super Sports Pit Pass Show", a 2 hour pre-race radio talk show, will make its debut on Saturday on WCCP 104.9 sports talk radio. Hosted by Allen "Spot" Lepperd, the segment will be broadcast live from the Greenville Pickens Speedway pit area. The show will offers race fans a chance to call in and talk racing, ask questions, and talk to their favorite Greenville Pickens Speedway drivers and race team members. Topics will include results, point standings, interviews with team members and drivers, area track information, and all subjects related to racing. The show will begin at 10am each race day.
