BECHTELSVILLE, PA MAY 4, 2001 . . . Five shows of professional stock car racing at Grandview Speedway will be featured on RCN Cable Channel 4 (Allentown, PA and surrounding areas) and NJ RCN Channel 8.
Fans and racers will be able to see the delayed video coverage of the May 5 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified and Late Model show several times during the month of May and June.
Other Saturday night stock car racing events at Grandview Speedway that will have delayed video tape coverage include June 23, July 7 (Firecracker 40 Late Model Championship) and August 4 (Forrest Rogers Memorial). In addition the DIRT sanctioned big block modified race on August 16 will be shown tape delayed on RCN Channel 4 & 8.
Handling the on air coverage of the NASCAR and DIRT events will be National Speed Sport News columnist Gary London, Area Auto Racing News and Trackside columnist Randy Kane, and former Flemington Speedway public relations person Lou Brunell. The three have years of experience as a broadcast team.
Viewers will be treated to 90 minute segments that include qualifying events in the first segment (1) and feature events in the second segment (2). The coverage will include racing action, driver and owner interviews plus other coverage.
The May 5 NASCAR Modified and Late Model doubleheader will see the second segment, feature events, being shown on May 16 at 8:30 p.m., May 23 at 8:30 p.m. and June 18 at 8:30 p.m. The first segment (qualifying heats) will be shown on May 7 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.,May 22 at 7:30 p.m., June 13 at 8:30 p.m. Schedule times are subject to change and it is recommended that viewers check their local listings.
The Saturday, June 23 show, Modifieds and Late Models, will be seen June 27 at 10 p.m. (first segment) and Tuesday, July 10 at 10 p.m. (first segment). The second segment can be seen on June 29th at 8:30 p.m. and July 13 at 9:30 p.m.
Late models will be in the spotlight during the July 7th show which includes the rich Firecracker 40 for Late Models and the Modifieds. The first segment will be seen on July 17 and July 24 at 7:30 p.m. The second segment will be shown on July 20 and July 27th at 8:30 p.m.
The Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap Modified Championship, paying $10,000 to win, plus Late Models will be take place on August 4. First segments (qualifying heats) will be seen on August 7 and August 14th at 7:30 p.m. Second segments (features) will be shown on August 10 and August 17th at 8:30 p.m.
And the DIRT Motorsports Big Block, 100 lapper, set for August 16th will be have the first segments seen on August 21 at 7:30 p.m. and September 5 at 8:30 p.m. And the second segment shows will be seen on August 24 and September 12 at 8:30 p.m.
In New Jersey, RCN Channel 8, will carry the video tape coverage, both segments, back-to-back on the Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. following the actual race events.
"We think this is great for the sport and certainly great for the racers and their sponsors. We can see this generating a great deal of interest in short track dirt racing and bringing more people out to the track. This will bring local short track racing to the attention of a much wider audience," said Grandview Speedway event organizer Bruce Rogers.
Grandview Speedway presents NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified and Late Model stock car racing, at least 12 big events, every Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m.
The one-third-mile, banked clay oval is located on Passmore Road just off Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown.
