BECHTELSVILLE, PA January 7, 2000 . . . The 38th consecutive season of professional stock car racing, again this year under the sanction of NASCAR (National Association For Stock Car Auto Racing), will get the green flag at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, March 25, 12 noon. As in the past the season will start with a "free-to- the-public" practice session. Featured will be all divisions of competition as they get ready for the "official" start of the season. And that official start of the season will come on Saturday, April 1 (no April Fools) at 5 p.m. The NASCAR sanctioned card of stock car racing will feature the NASCAR Modifieds, Exide Shortrack Late Models and PA. Sportsman stock cars. In fact the entire month of April will feature Saturday evening shows starting at 5 p.m. and including the same three divisions of competition. Effective with the first Saturday night show in May, racing will start at 7:30 p.m. and will include the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds along with the NASCAR Exide ShorTrack Late Models. That will be the regular Saturday night attraction throughout the season with just a very few exceptions. On Saturday, June 10, the NASCAR Modifieds will be joined by the BarsLeaks United Racing Club sprint cars. There will be no Late Model racing that evening. On July 1, the NASCAR Exide ShorTrack Late Models will be featured in their annual Firecracker 40. The NASCAR Modifieds will also be part of the show along with a giant fireworks display. The NASCAR Modifieds will be featured in the annual Forrest Rogers Memorial (at least 40 laps making up the feature) with $10,000 going to the winner. The Late Models will also be part of this exciting night of racing. The 30th Annual Freedom 76 Modified Classic will be featured on September 9. At least $20,000 goes to the winner of the annual classic. This event has a Sunday, September 10 rain date. Promoter Bruce Rogers will close out the 2000 season with tripleheader shows on September 16 and 23 featuring open competition modifieds, late models and PA Sportsman. The shows will start at 5 p.m. Again this year Rogers and racing publicist Bob Miller will co-promote five nights of special events. On Tuesday, May 23 the Grandview Thunder 4-25's will be offered featuring ARDC midgets, NASCAR Modifieds, Wingless Sprints and 410 Open Sprints. The PA Sprint Speedweek Series visits Grandview Speedway on Sunday, June 25 featuring 410 sprints and KARS limited sprints. Grandview Thunder 4-25s are in the limelight on July 19th with ARDC midgets, 410 sprints, Wingless Sprints and NASCAR Modifieds. The Super DIRT Series returns on August 17 with a 99-lap event for big block modified stock cars. And on Tuesday, August 29, the All Star KING OF THE HILL Sprint Championship will be featured with 410 sprints and KARS Sprints making up the show. In past seasons there has been a Sunday rain date in place for all Saturday night stock car events run June thru August. However this season the Sunday night rain date has been eliminated.
