BECHTELSVILLE, PA JULY 26, 2003 . . . Two time defending track champion and current NASCAR Modified track point leader Jeff Strunk drove the BPG Racing/Chad Sinon #88 Modified to victory in the 30-lap Harry's U-Pull-It Auto Parts NASCAR Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. The win also kept the Bethel, PA racer in front in the chase of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series New England Regional Series standings which would earn Strunk $45,000 at the end of the season. Former track Late Model champion Chuck Schutz, driving the Total Rental entry, took the top honors in the 19-lap Late Model feature race.

Cliff Quinn put his TV69 News entry in front of the 29 car starting field at the drop of the green for the Modifieds. On a restart after a sixth lap caution Ben Hatt went to the front but just one lap later it was Quinn back in front with Kevin Hartnett on his rear bumper. With 11 laps in the record book Quinn was out with a broken axle and Harnett was in front.

A multi car accident gave Barry Readinger a chance to close in on the leader on the restart. At 13 laps Shawn Reimert was challenging Hartnett and at 15 laps Shawn Reimert got the top spot on a restart. Meme DeSantis, the fastest man on the track all season based on clocked warm-up session speeds, took control of the race.

With 20 laps in the record book Jeff Strunk, coming from 13th starting spot, challenged for the lead and took the top spot on the 22nd circuit of the one-third-mile, clay banked oval. Once in front Strunk was able to hold off the strong efforts of DeSantis to take the win, his second of the season, and pick up the $2200 first place money.

Second spot went to DeSantis (Temple) followed by Shawn Reimert (Oley), Craig VonDohren (Oley) and Kenny Gilmore (Laureldale).

Strunk used the feature win as a tune-up for the rich, $10,000 to win, Stauffer Construction Forrest Rogers Memorial for Modifieds coming this Saturday. In addition there will be a full show of Late Model stock car racing.

In the scheduled 20-lapper for the Late Models the 26 car field Buddy Wharton lead the field through the first lap but was eliminated in an early accident. Harry Neiman Jr. was in charge on the second lap with Sam Schlosberg charging to the front on the 3rd circuit. With five laps in the books, officials had to go to single file restart because of several accidents. Schlosberg was able to lead through the 11th lap when Chuck Schutz brought his Total Rental sponsored entry into the lead. The rest of the feature, cut to 19 laps because of the time limit, had Schutz setting the pace while Schlosberg(Green Lane) got second followed by Harry Neiman (Pottstown), Terry Snyder (East Greenville) and Lou Egrie (Willow Grove).

For Schutz, who calls Pottstown home, it was his second win of the season. By virtue of his fifth place finish Egrie was able to move back in front in the chase for the Late Model title by just a narrow margin over Randy Stoudt.

Qualifying heats for the Late Models went to Harry Neiman, Sam Schlosberg and Chuck Schutz while Ron Kline got the win in the consolation. In Modified qualifiers the wins went to Meme DeSantis, Rick Schaffer, Kevin Hartnett, Craig VonDohren and Jeff Strunk. Consolation wins were earned by Doug Manmiller, Jon Kellner and Kevin Hirthler. The Cash Dash, worth $420, went to Kevin Hartnett

Coming up on Saturday, August 2nd, 7:30 p.m. is the Forrest Rogers Memorial Classic, run in memory of the man who designed and built Grandview Speedway, with the NASCAR Modifieds running for $10,000 to win.

The late model stock cars will also run a full show of events. Stauffer Construction will give away four new bicycles to lucky youngsters in the grandstands. Two lucky fans win rides in the two-seat modified stock car. And there will be lucky fans each winning $50.00 courtesy of Work's Restaurant and Sports Bar, GMI First Mechanical and the Franconia Cafe and Market.
