Rain forces postponement of season opener at Grandview Speedway until April 12th.
BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 5, 2003 . . . Rain and cold weather, temperatures forecasted to reach close to freezing Saturday night, forced the postponement of the Patriot Bank sponsored season opener for NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series Modifieds and Late Model stock cars at Grandview Speedway.
The Saturday show has now been reset for Saturday, April 12th at 6 p.m. A 40-lap feature for the NASCAR Modifieds will top the action with at least 13 events of stock car racing being presented for the Modifieds and Late Models.
"We held out to early afternoon before calling the show. We had a lot of interest in our season opener so we really wanted to get this one in. If we could have just gotten a period of sunshine to help us dry things out we might have been able to get things ready. We just ran out of time. It would have been a brutal damp and cold night for fans in the grandstands," said event organizer Bruce Rogers.
At the time of the postponement announcement it was not known if Patriot Bank would be back for the Saturday, April 12th show or would choose to sponsor a different date.
Jeff Strunk will be back in action to defend his 2002 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series track champion in the modifieds. Strunk would like nothing better than to be able to put together a strong season with his new car owner, Chad Sinon of Blue Bell, PA. And Strunk would also like a shot at the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series New England Region championship money which could reach $50,000. And even better would be a National Championship worth $160,000.
Lou Egrie of Willow Grove, PA will be back to defend his NASCAR Late Model title.
More than 90 stock cars are expected to be in the competition area for the Saturday, April 12th doubleheader show.
On Saturday, April 19th, 6 p.m. the Checkered Flag Fan Club will be part of the race night activities that will include at least 13 events of Modified and Late Model stock car racing.
