NASCAR Season For Gabbiani
Italian driver Gian Maria Gabbiani announced today that he will contest the 2004 season in the Nascar Weekly Racing Series Atlantic Division.
The 26 year old driver from Milan (Italy) will drive a Kerry Lawrence Motorsports Pontiac Grand Prix number 46 car with backing from new partners Red Devil Energy Drinks. He said "Having the deal with Red Devil is very inspiring for me. The have a great brand and are really nice people to work with. I plan to develop that relationship further".
Gabbiani had a taste of Nascar last year when he competed in one race at the end of the season, as well as competing in Italian Formula 3 and driving a Ferrari Modena F360GT at the Turin Motor Show race.
Excited with the new deal he commented "It's great to be contesting Nascar. This form of racing has fascinated me and I want to try and get all the way into Nextel Cup. I will be based in High Point, North Carolina, 10 minutes from my new team. Of course I would love to race at Le Mans like my father (Beppe) and I do have that possibility this year, but Nascar is my longer term priority".
He will contest races primarily in North and South Carolina at venues such as Myrtle Beach, South Boston and the famous Hickory short track oval. Testing will begin on March 13 and his first race will be at Hickory on March 20.
Gian Maria's Manager, Andy Woolgar added "We have some exciting prospects in store, including a Busch Nascar test, and we are currently in talks with one of the big Nextel teams for the future. He is a very marketable and capable driver and I am sure he will do his partners full justice".
Jointly sponsoring Gian Maria with Red Devil Energy Drinks are ARS Eyewear, Bello Mondo clothing, Giuseppe Fabbri Private Banker, JBC Construction of Milano, Cranfield University, Crash.net, Ship It LLc of Lexington North Carolina and Dynamic Technologies from Hickory North Carolina.
