Wernersville, PA (Feb.8) - After a rookie sportsman modified season of ups and downs, Fred Fisher and the Hoover Racing Team look to capitalize on the lessons learned to step up and be a serious threat for feature wins and the point title at Big Diamond Raceway NASCAR Sportsman-Modified competition this year.
"After a ten year absence from racing, last season was a real learning curve for me as I never ran a Sportsman Modified " Fisher shared. "So not only did I have to learn about the car, I also had to get to know and work with a brand new crew, and in turn they had to learn how to work with me" he explained further. Fisher returns with his 2002 Olsen Low Roller chassis, but this year it will be powered by a Larry Lombardo racing engine, while either a Baker, or VDL Carburetor will sit atop the engine depending on what Lombardo's Dyno tests show.
"We have made a commitment to run the full schedule at Big Diamond," shared crew chief, Blake Tobias. "Hopefully we will be a force in the championship point race and maybe sneak into victory lane a time or two! We had season long problems under the hood last year and have spared no expense making sure we have the horsepower to be a contender."
Sponsors of the Hoover Racing 95 include Wachovia Securities, Salvatore's Italian Restaurant in Wernersville, Silver Streak Transportation of Wernersville, Steffy Excavating of West Lawn, Pino Imported Ceramic Tile of Leesport, Leibig and Son Landscaping of Wernersville, Countryside Auto of Myerstown, Rockys Tree Clinic of Wernersville, Kent Windham Embroidery Services, Keith Parsons Race Car Lettering, Althouse Garage, Burkhart Brothers Performance Shop in Temple and Hoover Chevrolet of Wernersville.
Hoover Chevrolet, which is owned by Fred Fisher, also made a major commitment to auto racing this off-season by starting a new business venture. Hoover is now a full time GM Performance Parts Dealer. As a racer himself, Fisher has pledged that no other dealer in the area will beat Hoover's prices for all General Motors performance parts. Hoover Chevrolet will match or beat any written quotation from another dealer, no gimmicks, no fine print.
Fisher's engine builder, Larry Lombardo, is buying all his GM cranks, GM blocks and GM cylinder heads from Hoover Chevrolet.
"I see this as a great way to get more involved with the oval track scene," shared Fisher. "I feel we can make a lot of racers happy knowing that they will get the lowest prices on GM parts through the Hoover dealership. No matter if you are a driver, owner, engine builder, crew chief or crew member, we can supply the GM parts you need. We are in this for the long term and when I stop racing we will still be there for the local racing families, just as we have been there for the car and truck buying public for many, many years."
The team's 95 Sportsman-Modified will be participating in the Reading Fairgrounds Square Mall Car Show, which starts on February 23. In fact, on Big Diamond Night at the show on Tuesday, February 25, the team will be handing out 60 to 80 Fred Fisher Racing T-shirts just as a way to say thank you to all the fans that support Big Diamond. And the team will bring ALL size shirts from children to adult XXL.
Big Diamond will start the 2003 season on Sunday afternoon, March 30, with the NASCAR Sportsman-Modifieds and Roadrunners. That date will serve as a practice day for the Modifieds and Roadrunners.
