THE GLEN 150 / BILLY WOODS FAST FACTS
This Week's Assignment: Billy Woods and the A.W. Miller Technical Sales Racing Team returns to Featherlite Modified Series action with the running of this weekend's Glen 150 at Watkins Glen International. The 150-k event is a race that the Nichols NY driver has been looking forward to since the beginning of the 1999 season. Woods looks ahead to the weekend's action and says, "We're very excited about going back to Watkins Glen. It's a very big weekend for us and the team. It's great to be able to race in front of the hometown crowd, and we look forward to putting in a good finish four our fans and our supporters at A.W. Miller Technical Sales"
Last Time Out: (8/1/99, Oswego NY) Billy Woods and the A.W. Miller Technical Sales Racing Team arrived at Oswego Speedway for a 50-lap Sunoco Race of Champions Modified Tour event at the 5/8-mile facility. The race was originally slated for Saturday night, but raceday showers brought about of a postponement of the event to the following day. Sunday's action began with Woods posting a second place finish in his qualifying heat race. The main event saw the Nichols (NY) resident began from the second starting position on the grid. Woods quickly moved into first place and led the early portion of the event. Woods was still toward the front of the field in the later stages of the race when the #51 began to leak water as the result of an overheating problem. The A.W. Miller Technical Sales Chevrolet was brought pitside where the crew went to work on the car. Woods was able to rejoin action and post a tenth place finish in the event won by Sege Fidanza. Following the race Woods said, "We had a very good car. It was our first visit to Oswego in a number of years, and it was nice to go there and be able to run strong. We made the decision to redirect our main focus from the Featherlite Modified Series a couple of weeks ago so our team could regroup and begin to think toward next year with a positive attitude. Oswego was a good run for us, and we feel we're going in the right direction. Our tenth place finish wasn't really a good indication of how strong the car was, but other than the overheating problem, we're happy with how things went!"
Tune In!: Oswego's Sunoco Race of Champions Modified Tour event will be televised on a tape-delay basis on the Empire Sports Network on August 17 at 8:30 pm.
