AGAWAM, Mass. (March 30, 1998)

Reggie Ruggiero of Rocky Hill, Conn., won the Pepsi 200, the opening race of the 1998 Featherlite Modified Series, a NASCAR Touring Division, at Riverside Park Speedway.

Ruggiero started the Pepsi 200 in the 25th position and methodically worked his way to the front of the field, taking the lead on lap 108 from Chris Kopec of Ware, Mass.

It was the 38th career win for Ruggiero and his first driving for his new car owner Tony Moffo. Ruggiero scored his last win at New Hampshire International Speedway in September, 1997.

Defending series champion Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I., chased Ruggiero until lap 187, when he was involved in an incident with Ted Christopher. Stefanik recovered, losing only one position.

Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., the 1995-96 series champion, pressured Ruggiero over the final six laps finishing only .1-second behind.

Stefanik finished third. Dan Avery of Somers, Conn., finished fourth and Eddie Flemke rounded out top-five.
