JUNE 18, 2001-- The Richmond Times-Dispatch will be the title sponsor of the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series race at Richmond International Raceway on Friday, June 29. The Richmond Times-Dispatch 150 will be held "under the lights" at 8:00 p.m. as part of an open-wheel tripleheader weekend that will also include the inaugural appearance of the Indy Racing Northern Light Series.

"This is a great partnership for Richmond International Raceway," said Doug Fritz, president of Richmond International Raceway. "We have always enjoyed working with the Richmond Times-Dispatch and this sponsorship helps strengthen our relationship with the paper while also benefiting our fans."

The Richmond Times-Dispatch will offer once-in-a lifetime contest opportunities, including waving the green flag, giving the command to start engines and acting as grand marshal. Special promotional offers for race tickets and contest entry forms will appear in the Richmond Times-Dispatch and on www.timesdispatch.com starting today.

The paper will also insert free, two-sided, color posters in its Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 editions. The keepsake posters will help fans become more familiar with the series and drivers that are coming to Richmond International Raceway as part of the "Extreme Speed, Extreme Excitement" weekend.

The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series is NASCAR's oldest division and only open-wheel racing series. Many drivers have used the series as a stepping-stone to other racing circuits. Drivers with NASCAR Winston Cup experience who have raced in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series include Jimmy Spencer (two-time Modified champion), Steve Park, Geoffrey Bodine, Brett Bodine, Mike McLaughlin, Kenny Schrader and Jeff Fuller.

Race weekend begins with Indy Racing League practice on Thursday, June 28 and is followed by The Richmond Times-Dispatch 150 on Friday, June 29. Saturday features the Dominic's of New York 100 USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Series race and the inaugural SunTrust Indy Challenge.

Thursday will be free for all fans. Children 12 and under will receive a free general admission ticket on Friday and Saturday if accompanied by a paying adult. Friday adult tickets are $20, while Saturday reserved tickets are $35 and general admission tickets are $30.
