Rookie Claims Coors Light Pole Award At Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (June 5, 2010) - Ryan Gifford continued Revolution Racing's historic first-year in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

The 21-year-old from Winchester, Tenn., earned his first career Coors Light Pole Award Saturday with a lap of 20.561 seconds (92.097 mph) in qualifying for Sunday's UNOH Performance 200 at Martinsville Speedway. It was the first series pole for Revolution Racing and the NASCAR-supported Drive for Diversity initiative, and Gifford became the first African-American pole winner in series history.

Earlier this year, his teammate Darrell Wallace Jr., won the series-opener at Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway, while Sergio Pena scored a runner-up finish to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Joey Logano in January in the prestigious NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown.

Brett Moffitt qualified second at 20.570 (92.056), followed by Pena at 20.586 (91.985). Ryan Truex and Wallace rounded out the top five.

Eddie MacDonald, Cole Whitt, Andrew Smith, Ty Dillon and Kevin Swindell completed the top 10 in qualifying Saturday.

Sunday's race, the first stand-alone event for NASCAR's top developmental series at Martinsville, is scheduled to take the green flag at approximately 3 p.m. It will follow the conclusion of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.
