CONCORD, N.C. (Jan. 24, 2006) -- Ranging from NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing's annual all-star event to a 10-race weekly series that is cultivating future NASCAR stars, Lowe's Motor Speedway's 2006 schedule offers a wide variety of motorsports entertainment for the entire family.
The NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge returns to Lowe's Motor Speedway Saturday night, May 20. The most spectacular all-star event in professional sports, the unique race features a three-segment format and will pay the winner a minimum of $1 million. Qualifying for the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge and the Quaker Steak & Lube 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race are on tap Friday night, May 19.
The Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR's traditional Memorial Day weekend spectacular, is scheduled for Sunday evening, May 28. The 600-mile run will be preceded by the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 NASCAR Busch Series race on Saturday night, May 27, while CTC Pole Night qualifying on Thursday night, May 25, will set the starting field for the 600.
The Bank of America 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event on Saturday night, Oct. 14, highlights the October NASCAR weekend. Action begins with Bojangles' Pole Night qualifying on Thursday, Oct. 12, and the Dollar General 300 NASCAR Busch Series race gets the green flag Friday night, Oct. 13.
Lowe's Motor Speedway will also host three of the nation's largest car shows, including two editions of the Food Lion AutoFair, April 6-9 and Sept. 14-17. Each Food Lion AutoFair encompasses four days of car shows, car corrals, parts vendors, a collector car auction and some of the world's most unique automotive attractions.
At each show, more than 2,500 cars are on display from over 50 clubs while the car corral, located on the 1.5-mile superspeedway, features at least 1,500 collector vehicles for sale or trade. In addition, vendors will fill more than 7,000 spaces with a spectacular array of automotive parts and memorabilia.
More than 3,000 custom and modified cars will be at Lowe's Motor Speedway Oct. 27-29 for the 13th annual Goodguys Southeastern Nationals.
Street rods, customs, street machines and muscle cars displayed at the Goodguys Southeastern Nationals span the spectrum of automotive history, ranging from Model-A Fords stuffed with V-8 power to Dodges and Chevrolets that ruled the streets during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The event also includes a manufacturer's midway, swap meet and car corral.
The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway schedule has been revamped and now includes five major events featuring seven nights of action. Dirt track racing begins April 21-22 with the inaugural Colossal 100, a two-day championship late model race that will pay the feature winner $50,000 from a $200,000 purse.
The World of Outlaws, the nation's premier touring dirt-track series, will bring its high-speed form of sprint car racing back to The Dirt Track for the first time since 2003. The Outlaws will be in action Wednesday night, May 24, between the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge and Coca-Cola 600 weekends.
