Concord, N.C.(September 3, 2004) --- Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates announced today the signing of 22-year-old Scott Lagasse Jr. to its Talent Development Program. The St. Augustine, Fla. native joins the program with impressive credentials as a driver and a person.
"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates organization," said Lagasse Jr. "This is a company that in four years on the NASCAR circuit has proven it can be successful. It's an honor to be part of a team that stands behind its talent while continuing to build for the future."
Lagasse Jr. becomes the fourth driver on the Talent Development roster at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, which includes David Stremme, Reed Sorenson and Ryan Hemphill.
"Scott is someone who clearly has exceptional talent and potential on the track and who fits well with our values," said team owner Chip Ganassi. "The goal for our young drivers is the same as it is for all of the talented people throughout our organization - provide them with the resources and opportunity to develop their talents and accomplish their goals."
Lagasse Jr. began running in the ASA series in 2003 where he earned an impressive four top-10 finishes in just six starts. This year, Lagasse Jr. captured his first win in the series at Kentucky Speedway and his first pole at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
The 2001 Late Model Champion has been involved in racing since he was a child following his father around the motorcross paddocks. He was victorious in his first auto race at age 16, becoming the youngest driver to win a Modified race at St. Augustine Speedway.
As impressive as his on-track performance is, Lagasse Jr. is also committed to his education. He attends Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. on a full academic scholarship where he is on track to earn a Business/Marketing degree.
