CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY TO HOST NASCAR DOUBLEHEADER IN 2008
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA -- When NASCAR returns to Southern California in February, 2008, it will be part of a unique doubleheader as California Speedway will host both the Stater Bros. 300 and the San Bernardino County 200 races on the same day, NASCAR announced today. This historic doubleheader, taking place on Saturday, February 23rd, will complement the 2008 Auto Club 500 weekend. The Auto Club 500 marks the West Coast Premiere of NASCAR and will take place Sunday, February 24th, the week following the 50th running of the Daytona 500.
"In addition to the many track improvements we're making, we've worked with NASCAR to enhance our schedule to give our fans and sponsors an incredible motorsports value," said Speedway President Gillian Zucker. "Fans who purchase a ticket for Saturday will now be treated to 200 more miles of racing at no additional cost. We expect the appeal for families to be enormous, since children 12 and under will remain free of charge on both Friday and Saturday."
For the 2008 West Coast Premiere of NASCAR next February, the schedule has been adjusted so that the Craftsman Truck Series (the San Bernardino County 200) and newly entitled NASCAR Nationwide Series (the Stater Bros. 300) races will now both run on Saturday, February 23rd. Qualifying for the Auto Club 500 will take place on Friday, February 22nd to round out the weekend schedule.
The track's many sponsors will also see an increased value as the San Bernardino County 200 will now be televised to a national audience on FOX.
The adjustment of the schedule is just the latest improvement for race fans who visit California Speedway as last week the track announced a host of facility enhancements slated for 2008. Included among those are the installation of escalators in three key sections of the facility, expanded misting areas in the grandstands and suite terraces, a renovated scoreboard and the installation of high definition LCD monitors throughout the track.
