Bobby Grigas III Picks Up Thompson Sunoco Modified Ride For 2008 Thursday Night Races, and a Few TVMRS Shows, Add to a Schedule of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Events
CONCORD, NC (March 7, 2008) -- Most racecar drivers spend Thursday nights preparing for their busy weekends at the track. This season, Bobby Grigas III will instead spend those evenings moonlighting as the driver of a Sunoco Modified in the Whelen All-American Series at Thompson International Speedway. Grigas will drive an entry owned by Jimmy Page of Blackstone, Massachusetts, in the full schedule of Sunoco Modified races for 2008.
"I'll be driving the #00 Sunoco Modified at Thompson," said Grigas, who raced a Late Model at the track on a regular basis earlier in his career. "I'm psyched to go back to Thompson. For the last two years, I've wanted to get a Sunoco Modified ride there. When we go there [with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour], I always try to watch the Sunoco Modified racing. They are so exciting and I get pumped watching that. It is hard-core racing -- going out and banging wheels to win. That's the kind of racing that I like. My parents told me that it seems like I'm even more excited about going and racing there then I am to race on the Tour."
Grigas doesn't just plan to wheel a Sunoco Modified for car owner Page. He also plans to work in some True Value Modified Racing Series starts for the team when his schedule on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour allows him to.
"He bought one of the #36 cars [a former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour car driven by Ted Christopher]," said Grigas. "It's a turn-key Chevrolet. So we're going to run that in the True Value Modified Racing Series. It will be good to go back to that series too."
Grigas is looking forward to teaming up with Page.
"It's good to drive for someone with an established team," said Grigas. "I really appreciate this opportunity."
In addition to all of the races he'll run for Page and in his own #09 Modified, Grigas is still looking for more seat time to fill out his 2008 racing schedule.
"I really want to get into a fendered car," said Grigas. "I'd like to move up in racing, and everyone down South tells me that although the Modified Tour is a good tour, I really need to get more experience in a car with fenders."
