Johnson Wins Busch North Race at Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD, Conn. (July 21, 2004) -- Every year, Mike Johnson wins at least one NASCAR Grand National Division Busch North Series race. He collected his first victory of the 2004 season when he dominated the Kobyluck Corporations 150 at the Waterford Speedbowl.

It marked the fifth straight season in which Johnson has won at least once in Busch North Series racing and it was his second victory at Waterford.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the Grand National Division, which also includes the West Series. The tire package supplied at Waterford was the same one used by the West Series on the same night at Evergreen Speedway in Evergreen, Wash.

Johnson simply dominated the race at Waterford, setting the quickest time in time trials and leading every lap. He edged runner-up Mike Stefanik by slightly more than half a second. Johnson averaged 58.679 mph in the race and won the pole with a lap of 88.753 mph.

Matt Kobyluck finished third, Mike Olsen finished fourth after starting seventh and Andy Santerre came home fifth after starting 16th.

Olsen's finish tightened what was already a close race for the championship. Santerre leads the standings with 1,318 points. Olsen is second with 1,304.
