MOORESVILLE, NC (July 25, 2003) -- The Tops Friendly Markets Racing Team and Tommy Baldwin Racing have announced that driver Paul Wolfe will not be entering the next two NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series races at the Waterford Speedbowl July 26 and Seekonk Speedway Aug. 2 to allow Wolfe to prepare for his NASCAR Busch Series debut later in the season.
"Tommy Baldwin Racing and Paul Wolfe have chosen to shorten our Busch North schedule, which will include skipping the next two races at Waterford and Seekonk. After a tough first half, we are not in the running for the Busch North points championship anyway," car owner Tommy Baldwin said. "We originally planned to run the full series, but when we were in the position to put Paul in a nationally televised Busch race this season, we just could not pass it up. This opportunity will also provide Paul with valuable experience as we continue to move his driving career forward."
The details of the Busch race, including the track venue and the team's sponsorship, will be announced soon. The next Busch North race Wolfe will enter will be Aug. 9 at Watkins Glen International Raceway.
"This is a great opportunity for us," said Wolfe, who will drive the No. 6 car in the yet-to-be-announced event. "I will be testing over the next few weeks to get some track time in a Busch car."
Tops Markets, LLC is one of six retail operating companies under Ahold USA, one of the leading supermarket operations in the U.S. Tops currently operates 159 Tops Friendly Markets and 204 convenience stores in New York, Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio.
