Wolfe finishes sixth at Nazareth.
5/18/02 Nazareth, PA -- Paul Wolfe drove his SCOTT® Products/Heinz USA Monte Carlo to a sixth-place finish in the Burnham Boilers 100 at Nazareth International Speedway. Wolfe started on the pole and led the first 50 laps of the event, but in the end the checkered flag went to veteran driver Ted Christopher.
"We had a rocket-ship for the first half of the race," Wolfe explained after the event. "We took a gamble pitting at lap 50. We were a little loose on old tires, and we used up a lot of tire coming up through the pack after our pit stop," said Wolfe. A handful of cars, including the top four finishers, Ted Christopher, Matt Kobyluck, Brad Leighton, and Bill Penfold, elected not to pit.
After leading the first 50 laps virtually uncontested, Wolfe was then faced with working his way back up through the pack. By lap 60, Paul was back in the top ten. On lap 98, Paul overtook Brian Hoar for the sixth position and held that to the finish.
Although unable to score his first Busch North Series victory, Wolfe had a very impressive weekend at Nazareth. He led 14 drivers in breaking the old track record in Bud Pole Qualifying. The new mark is 27.923 seconds at 128.926 miles per hour. Wolfe also won the Gatorade Front Runner Award for leading the most laps. The event is scheduled to air tape-delayed on SPEED Channel on May 27, 2002 at 8 p.m. EST.
