Santerre Asserts Team Strength in Busch North Race

ERIE, Penn (July 13, 2004) -- Andy Santerre gave notice to the competitors of the NASCAR Grand National Division Busch North Series that his team has his car running well and that Santerre himself is at the top of his game. Santerre won the Local Dodge Dealers 150 at Lake Erie Speedway near Erie, Penn., slightly expanding his lead in the championship standings as he did so.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the Grand National Division, which also includes the NASCAR West Series. The two series use common tires and the tires the Busch North teams used at Lake Erie are the same combination they will use in the end of the year all-star event at Irwindale Speedway in California.

Santerre went the distance on a single set of Goodyear Eagles, all the more impressive since he did not take the lead until 111th lap. Brian Hoar led the first lap before Mike Olsen took over and led the next 48. Ryan Moore used a terrific restart to lead the 50th lap, but Olsen, a former series champion, got back ahead for the next 60 circuits around the 3/8-mile oval before Santerre got in front.

The winner averaged 59.752 mph and edged Mike Johnson, the runner up, by .435 of a second. Olsen finished third, Bryon Chew was fourth and Kelly Moore took fifth.

The victory gave Santerre a 44-point edge over Olsen in the race for the championship, 1,188-1,144.
